Xanthos - the new and vastly improved K4
At IFRA Expo in Amsterdam we are showing you K4 Version 6.0, which marks the most important release in vjoon’s history. Developed especially for Adobe Creative Suite 4.0, K4 6.0 is nothing short of a workflow revolution. In contrast to all other editing and publishing systems on the market, K4 6.0 is not status-based; instead it assigns specific editing tasks to specific personnel accountable for handling texts, images, and layouts. This constitutes a paradigm shift from the practice of checking documents in and out to user-focused, role-based publishing. In today’s complex and extended production environments incorporating freelancers and outside agencies, users barely have time to get to know a new publishing system. K4 frees each player to focus on his or her assigned task, making the publishing process so much more practical, intuitive, and easier. What’s more, K4 enables the division of labor, breaking the process down into parallel “packages” - to save time and spare players downstream long waits. They can get started before their upstream counterparts finish.
Serve all Media with Split Workflow
K4 6.0’s ability to split the workflow makes it such a powerful cross-media publishing platform. Whereas version K4 5.9 enabled print content to be exported to the web or archived, K4 6.0 is able to branch out workflows for all K4 objects - articles, images, layouts - to the given media channels.
It even recognizes dependencies between workflows: Say you want to preview on the web an upcoming print article to promote the next issue of your mag. Once your people complete the first draft of the article, you can split up the workflow for the web and print edition. Then you can post the teaser online to promote the next issue while your authors and editors are still working on the print article. Best of all, changes made in the print edition are shown in the web workflow, so the teaser is easily updated with every change. If the editor in chief sends it back for a rewind – say, for a fact check - the web article’s status changes automatically.
Interdependencies among individual object types are clearly discernible in K4 6.0. Say an Internet article is ready for printing in a newspaper or magazine and waiting for the editor to load it the layout, but the accompanying image has yet to be approved. The system identifies the problem and notifies the pertinent user. Any number of workflows can be created in K4 6.0 for any object types. vjoon K4 spearheads a new approach to publishing, as its pioneering task-based workflow and ability to split the workflow for individual objects or media channels attests.
More Benefits
Another trendsetting advance is its set of standard interfaces that uses Web Services to ensure flexible connectivity to third-party systems. The new intuitive user interface is all about handling ease and convenience. With so many and such efficient templates and wizards at their fingertips, system administrators can get daily chores such as creating new user profiles done quickly. And vjoon K4 6.0 ships with about 40 other new features that make working life easier for every publishing crew. Built on a modern multi-tier architecture, Java, and AJAX, this powerful platform is the new benchmark in publishing.
